Rejuvenate with Yin Yang Water

Yin Yang water might sound mystical, but its origins are rooted in the practical wisdom of Korean tradition. Known as 음양탕 (Eum-yang-tang), this concept from oriental medicine involves transforming ordinary water into a health-enhancing drink by balancing opposing energies.

Drinking water is undoubtedly beneficial for the body, aiding hydration and working as a natural moisturizer from within. However, the Korean tradition of Yin Yang water, or 음양탕 (Eum-yang-tang), elevates hydration to another level by creating a balance of energies within the body. This practice, rooted in oriental medicine, is both simple to prepare and packed with health benefits.

How to Make Yin Yang Water

  1. Boil water in a pot or electric boiler.
  2. Fill 2/3 of a mug with the hot water.
  3. Add cold water to fill the rest of the mug. (Room temperature water can be used for a milder effect.)
  4. Important: Always pour the hot water first, followed by the cold water.

And that’s it—your Yin Yang water is ready!

Why Yin Yang Water Works

When combined, the hot water rises while the denser cold water sinks, creating a natural circulation within the cup. This circulation stimulates similar activity in the body when consumed, promoting internal heat distribution. The result? A cool, clear head and a warm, energised lower body, where vital organs are located.

This process helps alleviate common digestive issues such as indigestion, bloating, constipation, and even diarrhea. Even without symptoms, drinking Yin Yang water regularly can support overall digestive health and balance.

Warm Water vs. Cold Water

Asian traditions often emphasise drinking warm water to maintain internal activity and prevent stagnation. Cold water, while refreshing, slows digestion and fat breakdown. Warm water, by contrast, can aid weight loss and support female health by promoting warmth in the lower abdomen.

Customising Yin Yang Water

  • For hot-bodied individuals (those who prefer cool environments and experience frequent heat), adjust the ratio to 1/3 hot water and 2/3 cold water.
  • For cold-bodied individuals (those with chilly hands and feet or who love bundling up), increase the amount of hot water for more warmth.

Adding Variety

For those who love tea, the Yin Yang concept can easily apply to beverages like green tea, pu-erh tea, or herbal infusions. For weight loss, try Yin Yang ginger tea; for a sweeter option, consider fruit teas like yuzu.

With regular consumption, Yin Yang water can reduce bloating, improve digestion, and enhance overall well-being. The simplicity of its preparation makes it a practical and enjoyable addition to any daily routine.
